Representing Veterans - a sample guide to resources for public defense attorneys

When your client is a veteran, there are significant social service resources potentially available to aid you in effectively representing your client.  The Louisiana Public Defender Board, working with their state Department of Veterans Affairs, recently developed "A Resource for Public Defenders Representing U.S. Veteran Clients."  This resource guide contains detailed information about substance abuse services, treatment for PTSD, mental health services, location of VA facilities in the state, and contact information for specialists in VA benefits.

This is a great tool that can easily be replicated and expanded upon by public defense systems throughout the country, so that every attorney representing an indigent veteran can help their client to make the best use of all resources available to them.
