Bio

Richard C. Goemann is the Executive Director of D.C. Law Students in Court.  Previously, he has served as Director of Defender Legal Services for the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, as an assistant federal public defender for the Eastern District of Virginia, and as the executive director for Virginia’s Indigent Defense Commission. Richard also served as the executive and deputy director for the IDC’s predecessor agency, the Public Defender Commission, as the public defender for Fairfax, Virginia, and was an assistant and senior assistant public defender in Alexandria. Prior to coming to Virginia, Richard was a staff attorney in the Criminal Division of the D.C. Law Students in Court Program, where he was an adjunct professor and clinical supervisor for law students from George Washington and Catholic University Law Schools. Richard received his J.D. degree from New York University School of Law, and was selected as an E. Barrett Prettyman Graduate Fellow at Georgetown University Law Center where he earned an LL.M. degree in Advocacy.
