Randi M. Hood is the first and current Chief Public Defender for Montana, a position to which she was appointed in November, 2005. She has been a public defender for over 33 years including running the Lewis and Clark County Public Defender office for 18 years. Her public defender practice has included representing youths in delinquency proceedings, persons who are the subject of involuntary commitment for mental illness, and children in dependency and neglect cases as well as persons charged with felonies and misdemeanors. Throughout her career she has tried numerous felonies including many deliberate homicides. She was named Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year in Montana in 2004 and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
